Journey to the top

Born in Bradford in 1993, Jamie started snowboarding at just seven years of age. A year later he had already placed in his first competition in Scotland and even managed a podium finish in the men’s category. His teenage years saw him snowboarding most days of the week becoming a familiar sight at his local Halifax dry slope. These hours of purposeful practice giving him more than just a focus but an escape from falling in with the “wrong crowd” back at home. When Team GB invited him to a pre-season training camp at Hintertux, he knew then at 16 that this was the right time to start travelling and pursuing a career as a professional snowboarder.

Fast forward to age 29 and Jamie Nicholls is one of the most recognisable faces in GB snow sports with appearances at two Olympic Games and winning three World Cup medals among his most notable achievements. He has competed all over the world in some of the biggest snowboard competitions around, including the X-Games and Tokyo Burton Rail days. He hopes now to qualify for his third Olympics, his goal to be watched by his family as he takes to the slopes.

“It wasn’t really about being a professional. I didn’t even know the Olympics existed in snowboarding – I just went there because I loved it.”

RŌNIN - MOVE IN THE SHADOW

In 2022, Jamie deployed to Morzine with the ThruDark team to test and critique the developmental Rōnin Alpine Sports Range. Pushing the range to its limits on the slopes, on this occasion being scrutinised on the technical performance of his kit rather than the technical performance of every twist, turn and flip. Jamie was able to provide unparalleled first hand insight from the length of the jackets and bib pants to the position of pockets and the feel of the eVent® DV Alpine fabric during periods of high activity.

"ThruDark have listened to everything I’ve had to say and took my advice on board, my opinion really mattered and I’ve not had that before with any other brand that I’ve worked with."
